Description of the macro location: The municipality of Laško lies along the lower reaches of the Savinja River, which divides the pre-Alpine Posavina Hills into western and eastern parts. There are 85 settlements and 9 local communities in the municipality. The birth rate has been declining for many years, the population is aging on average, just like elsewhere in Slovenia. The town of Laško is the economic and administrative center of the Lower Posavinje. The higher areas of the municipality are covered with forests, on the lower plateaus, peaks and steeper ridges of the region, the forest has been cut down in many places, and hamlets or isolated farms have been created on the clearings. Forest covers more than half of the area. There are mostly mixed forests, with a predominance of deciduous trees; among the tree species, spruce and beech dominate. The wider landscape is known for its pre-Alpine flora, some rare relict species and protected flower beds. The economy of the municipality is based on tourism and the economic activities connected to it.
