The Netherlands is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, including 3 islands in the Caribbean. The Netherlands in its entirety is often referred to as Holland, although North and South Holland are actually only two of its 12 provinces. It covers an area of 41,543 square kilometers and has a population of about 16 million Dutch speaking people. It is the 10th most populous country in Europe. Nonetheless in May 2011, the OECD ranked the Netherlands as the happiest country. The capital is Amsterdam and the seat of government is The Hague.
